Got my Comet FSM from milehighskates.com the other day, so today I got it out for some runs. Of course, as I’ve mentioned before, most of my hills here are pretty mild, but they mostly pretty nice for mellow carving. The board is set up with MHS Indy/Core hybrids, with nice soft bushings. Turns and rides really smooth, and is very low to the ground.
I hit the few hills I normally ride up in Plano and had a pretty good time. I’m getting more comfortable with downhill now, so these hills don’t seem very challenging anymore. Which is really OK. They are still fun. Did a little exploring in a north-east Plano neighborhood for new hills. Didn’t find any good streets, but I did find a really nice curving bike path that goes downhill for about 1/4 mile. It is actually pretty fast, with smooth concrete, some nice turns to make it interesting, and about 10 feet wide. I wish it were at least 4 times longer (the downhill part), but around here we take what we can get.
Then I headed over to Canyon Creek and did one of the first hill runs I found in this area. It now seems quite lame. Just not fast enough. Has a couple of good sections, but overall it is just too flat. There are some better runs in that neighborhood, which I’ve written about before. I’ll hit them tomorrow.
I’m really happy with both my Comet Pagan and the FSM. The Pagan, with its longer wheelbase, is better suited to higher speeds. The FSM is fun board to carve around on though, and soon I’ll start practicing some slides on it. I’m running the 80a lime green Retro Freerides (72mm) on both boards, and they seem to be pretty versatile wheels.
Just like the Pagan, the FSM from milehighskates.com was set up perfectly right out of the box. As MHS says, “Ready to Rip”. Can’t ask for better service. The trucks are tuned up, the wheels, bearings, and spacers are set up perfectly. No slop at all. Just a solid, fast sled.
